Day on the Hill 2020

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS HOST A VIRTUAL DAY ON PARLIAMENT HILL!

On May 25 and 26, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada is hosting meetings for our Virtual Hill Day. We have organized virtual meetings with Ministers and Members of Parliament to advocate for investment in youth mentoring especially during the pandemic.

The efforts to curb the spread of COVID 19 in Canada will have an impact on agency work in community to build and maintain strong mentor relationships between volunteers, young people and their families. This important work will need to continue after this pandemic is stabilized. Our young people will need the support of a mentor now more than ever to cope with these challenging times of change and uncertainty.

With the guidance and support of a mentor, a young person can gain the confidence to achieve more. Youth who have participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring are more likely to be employed, pursue healthy lifestyles, and give back to society. For youth in the most vulnerable situations, the social return on investment is $23 for every dollar invested in youth mentoring programs.

We are committed to maintaining and supporting the vital mentoring relationships we create in order to fight the social isolation of our most vulnerable youth. Together, we can enable life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people.
