Big Brothers Big Sisters gives kids the opportunity to do new things that they may not otherwise have the chance to do. It also gives people a platform to meet new people, mentors, and friends.
Alana has 13 siblings but was still very much in need of a friend and mentor all her own. When her mother passed away, Alana was going through a tough time and it was hard for her to make friends. She is so grateful that her Big Sister Avery helped her through those times. They both have Indigenous roots and have made it a point to explore their cultural heritage together. Avery says it’s been a privilege to see her Little Sister grow into a vibrant young woman, and Alana says she honestly don’t know where she’d be without her Big Sister’s support.
