Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC) is seeking a National Senior Manager, Fund Development to support national projects and fulfill funder expectations. The role will assume responsibility for the day-to-day execution of national projects in accordance with organizational goals, contractual requirements, best practices and our National Theory of Change. They will also help to identify program and service gaps, as well as support cross team coordination for effective implementation of national projects.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada enables life-changing mentorship relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. With 90+ member agencies serving more than 1,100 communities across Canada, each year we help about 32,000 young people access the transformative benefits of mentoring relationships with caring, trained volunteers. Our national organization provides services and programs to our membership agencies to assist them in their work with parents, caregivers, school communities, mentees, and volunteers.

Our staff and volunteers support diverse young Canadians by providing a safe passage through childhood. We help children overcome adversities and provide opportunities for them to grow and thrive as young adults.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING IN THIS ROLE?

This is a 1 FTE role with 35 hours a week that reports to the National Vice President, Fund Development and Marketing. This role involves developing and managing relationships with donors, implementing innovative fundraising strategies, and overseeing a team to achieve ambitious revenue targets that support the organization’s mission.

Responsibilities and Duties include:

Fund Development Strategy and Operations
  • Reports directly to the National Vice President, Fund Development and Marketing, and works with the National Office Staff to develop strategies for success across all fundraising channels.
  • Develops and implements a fundraising operating plan for each channel to achieve short-term and long-term goals.
  • Maintains and updates the case for support using compelling accurate data and storytelling.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and expands the number of individual annual, and mid-level,
  • Analyses campaigns and data; reports on fundraising results against individual goals and operating plan.
  • Stays apprised of advancements and changes pertinent to fundraising and development profession. Direct and leads adaptations to current strategies and practices in accordance with these changes and as necessary.
  • Provides vision and direction to build and manage a full-scale development function that includes the development of a planned giving strategy.
  • Participates in the operating planning process and contributes to decisions for the success of the whole organization.
Revenue Development and Budget
  • Building on direct experience from progressive roles as a fundraising generalist, this role will support the development of growth strategies for existing fundraising channels.
  • Develops annual fundraising revenue and expense budgets in collaboration with VP, Fund Development and other fund development team members.
  • Identifies new opportunities to sustain and expand organizational funding from charitable and other sources.
  • Leads the pipeline development process for the Fund Development team.
  • Develops and designs, plans, and leads successful new fundraising channel initiatives based on well-crafted strategy.
  • Managing operating budget expenses to plan.
Stewardship and Cultivation
  • Creates, implements, manages, and assesses a comprehensive donor relations plan to support BBBSC’s fundraising efforts, including responding to donor concerns and/or requests, gift acknowledgements, program information and stewardship.
  • Ensures that all donors in the portfolio are aware of the impact and outcomes their gifts have on the beneficiaries
  • Fosters a positive, ongoing relationship with donors and ensures a long-term relationship is forged by maintaining contact and proactively educating donors on outcomes and results of BBBSC’s efforts.
  • Designs and implement growth and retention strategies with existing donors and opportunities to forge new donor relationships.
  • Oversees development of and manages donor and fundraising events.
Leadership and Development
  • Your growth mindset will foster and nurture the development of fund development team members, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Actively participates in making strategic recommendations and decisions regarding BBBSC’s revenue development strategy.
  • Contributes to the development of benchmarks, KPIs and other measures of success.
  • Leads Network-wide collaboration to enhance fund development skills and capacity at local agencies.
  • Contributes to continued growth of the organization through team development and participation in senior leadership team discussions.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

In addition to being a team player, quick learner, and an analytical thinker the successful candidate will have the following Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with individuals and organizations
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising and developing direct reports
  • Tangible experience cultivating and growing donor relationships, over time.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency in planning, policy development, and financial management.
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, including in coaching and building a culture of trust that promotes collaboration.
