The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and finally, summer is here! As the weather gets warmer, matches are getting excited for the opportunities this season brings, like going to the beach, playing sports outside, and of course, getting ice cream! Still, as a Big, you may feel you have done all these activities before or are wanting inspiration to put a fun new spin on typical summer outings with your Little. Well, we are here to help! Give these ideas a go with your Little this summer:
- Incorporating a Scavenger hunt or Bingo card to make any summer activity more engaging! Visiting a local park or museum? Try creating a list of things for your Little to spot (for example, if visiting a park, certain types of birds, trees, or landmarks) for a truly mindful and exciting outing.
- Exploring smaller or “specialty” museums. In my city, there are many hidden gems just waiting to be discovered- for example, the Aviation Museum and the Electrical Museum that are both worth visiting. This is the perfect activity for a rainy summer day.
- Try combining activities- for example, hosting a “Painting Pots Picnic” where you lay down a picnic blanket, have some snacks, and paint flowerpots. You can then use your beautiful creations to start a new hobby. How about planting a small garden together? You can choose to grow colourful flowers, tasty vegetables, or fragrant herbs. Tending to your garden will be a rewarding and educational experience that can truly “blossom and grow” all summer long!
Summer is a season of endless possibilities and adventures. By trying out these fun and creative ideas, you can make the most of your time with your Little and create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re exploring new places, engaging in exciting activities, or starting new hobbies together, this summer promises to be filled with joy and discovery. So grab your sunscreen, gather your supplies, and get ready for a summer full of fun, learning, and unforgettable moments!
