Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC) is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator. The Human Resources Coordinator helps build and maintain the organizational HR structure to ensure best practices, compliance with provincial and federal workplace legislation, and efficiency within processes, while providing an overall support system for BBBSC’s Human Resources function. The role will support internal leaders and BBBSC employees, as well as supporting the Senior Leadership Team.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada enables life-changing mentorship relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people. With 90+ member agencies serving more than 1,100 communities across Canada, each year we help about 32,000 young people access the transformative benefits of mentoring relationships with caring, trained volunteers. Our national organization provides services and programs to our membership agencies to assist them in their work with parents, caregivers, school communities, mentees, and volunteers.

Our staff and volunteers support diverse young Canadians by providing a safe passage through childhood. We help children overcome adversities and provide opportunities for them to grow and thrive as young adults

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING IN THIS ROLE?

This is a 0.5 FTE role with 15 hours a week that reports to the National President & CEO. As the National Human Resources Coordinator, you play an important role in supporting the HR function of the National Team at BBBSC.

Recruitment

  • Participate and manage full-cycle recruitment and selection of potential candidates, including drafting and posting job descriptions, managing talent pool, screening applicants, conducting interviews, and preparing job offers;
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding of team members;
  • Maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions;
  • Manage the 2025 Canada Summer Jobs Program from recruitment, onboarding and ensuring compliance with program guidelines.

Engagement and Administration

  • Leads the implementation of the performance management system that includes performance evaluation, individual work objectives and employee development programs;
  • Analyze the survey data from the employee engagement survey for trends and improvements to provide recommendations;
  • Research annual COLA increase and make recommendations;
  • Review and update employment letters to reflect current compensation for all positions, promotions and changes in employment status;
  • Maintains employee records and files;
  • User set up and administration for Ceridian;
  • Tracks vacation, sick and personal days of all employees;
  • Ensure Training related to HR Policies (Violence Harassment Training) is completed;
  • Lead, maintain and track benefits administration for all National Team;
  • Performs other tasks, as necessary.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an individual who is proactive in fast paced working environment. To be successful in this role, you must have a diverse skill set that combines both technical knowledge and interpersonal abilities. You find joy in working with others and have experience working with diverse groups of individuals. You have strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills that are key to managing multiple tasks and fostering positive relationships with employees and management. Emotional intelligence and adaptability are critical for this role as you’ll be handling confidential information. Ultimately, an HR Coordinator must combine their expertise in HR processes with the ability to manage people and contribute to a positive work environment.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, like Human Resources or Business Administration
  • 2-3 years experience with Human Resources and administration functions
  • CHRP designation or in progress is considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable in federal and provincial legislation
  • Excellent Microsoft Office 365 skills
  • Exceptional time and project management skills.
  • Superior communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to quickly learn systems, processes, and procedures
  • Strong initiative and solid judgment abilities/skills
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Bilingualism (French) is considered an asset
